Plated and armoured dinosaurs
These plant-eaters defended themselves with bone. Stegosaurs carried plates and spikes along the back and tail. Ankylosaurs were covered in bony armour, and some swung a heavy club.
How to tell
What makes a armoured dinosaur
01 Bone in the skin Their armour was made of bone that grew in the skin, as a crocodile's does.
02 Low and wide They walked on four legs and fed on low plants.
03 Tail weapons Spikes or a club on the tail could badly injure an attacker.
