Flying reptiles
Pterosaurs were not dinosaurs. They were close relatives that took to the air, long before birds or bats. Each wing was a sheet of skin stretched from an enormously long fourth finger to the body. They ranged from the size of a sparrow to the size of a small aeroplane.

01 Wing finger The wing was held out by one hugely long finger.
02 Fuzz Their bodies were covered in a coat of fine, hair-like fibres.
03 On the ground They walked on all fours, with their wings folded up.
